First ICA done and dusted!

Module: Introduction to asset creation for games
Grade: A

First ICA done and graded! For this one I had to follow 3 tutorials and 2 assets of my choice (from a list). all had max tri counts ect. and had to come along with all textures and a presentation image. These presentation images are what I'm posting here as they give a good view of the assets and it saves me from having to render out a whole bunch more of them.....

Tutorial assets

Modelled from tutorial.
Tri count: 650
Texture size: 256x256

Tri count: 600
Texture size: 512x512

Modelled from tutorial.
Tri count: 275
texture size: 1024x1024

Out of these 3 assets I believe that the M24 Stick grenade was by far the best of the lot. With a relatively low texture size and tri count I managed to make an asset that looked quite believable. In terms of the worst the Scramble handheld was, I believe, bottom of the pile. It had a low tri count but with the texture budget I had I could have done an awful lot more.

Chosen assets

Tri count: 1,998
Texture size: 1024x1024

Tri count: 4,754
Texture size: 1024x1024

Both of these assets where made from scratch without a tutorial to guide me. Out of the two the house is certainly the best, and my tutor agrees. Both assets have their flaws, especially the Raygun, but both were more than good enough for this project.

Something I know I need to improve on from this are my Normal mapping skills and the tidyness of my modelling. With both of the more complex assets I had issues with doubled up verts and other such problems that could easily be fixed with a little more care.
For my Normal maps I plan to take some time to learn the tools involved in baking normals from high poly models. I will post my experiments and results here on the blog.

If anyone wants to see the assets in more detail then I can get some more angles rendered out.
